The world of astrology and horoscope is fun, exciting yet complex. Everyone wants to dip into it- the predictions, the future and give some name to the sudden happenings in their life! Whether you believe in the whole Vedic astrology or not, one thing that everyone does read in the morning newspaper is their daily prediction as per their zodiac signs. These signs are one of the most common ways to identify the characteristics and personality of an individual. It’s almost amusing how people of the same sun sign have some stark similarities which completely puzzles the human brain. Today we are going to dive into the world of zodiac signs or sun signs and see how they relate to some of our candle fragrances.

Aries are usually fearless and very strong. They can be seen as quite headstrong and argumentative at times. But, they are the most passionate of all Zodiac Signs about things. An Aries loves new experiences. We associate La Canela with Aries. La Canela is our cinnamon-scented candle. It is a sweet and warm fragrance but with a tenacious spicy note. It represents the Aries personality perfectly.

Taurus ♉️( April 20 to May 20 )

Taurus is a loyal and reliable zodiac sign. They are down to earth and are great at consistency and reliability. They are meticulous and polite. Taurus is represented by the bull and are hence quite dedicated. We associate our Good Vibes candle with Taurus. If any of these senses are taken away from us, we would not be able to enjoy our lives to the full extent. This blog will help you understand the multiple ways you can bring fragrances to your life.

The sense of smell is extremely important. Smell has always been known to be the make or break in any scenario. It’s one thing that can set your mood right away or just make you lose interest in the entire place. Be it a person, place or food, if it doesn’t smell right, you wouldn’t want anything to do with it !

Let’s talk about how we can make our place, or as a matter of fact any place, smell amazing. There are multiple ways available today which can be used to add fragrance to any room. We have a variety of stuff like scented candles, perfume air pockets, gel fragrance boxes, diffusers, wax melts…..the list is never ending. But how do we choose which of these is the best? How do we know what’s right for us ?

Let’s go over a few of the options and discuss which type suits different scenarios.

What option suits you best?

Diffusers

Let’s start with the basics. A really cool option which is in trend right now is using diffusers. Diffusers are used to disperse the fragrance in the whole area but in a controlled manner. It’s a slow and rather soothing process. Diffusers are of different types. They can be electric or the natural kind ( non-electric). They are very much in fashion and look really cool when placed in an aesthetic environment.

An electric diffuser is heated using electricity and then it disperses the fragrance. On the other hand, the non-electric diffuser, which is a more natural and primitive method, uses the heat of a candle or flame to disperse the fragrance into the surroundings. Both are extremely easy to use, great to look at and are extremely effective ways to introduce fragrance to any place.

What do I use in the diffuser tray?

Now the major decision comes in! What to put inside the diffuser tray ?

We have multiple options here. The most common and widely used way is to put a few drops of fragranced essential oil and mix it with water. This is put into the diffuser tray and as the tray warms up this water infused with essential oil starts to evaporate into the air, thereby making the fragrance travel to every corner of the room.

This is a great method but we have personally experienced a little issue in this method. When we use the diffuser, be it the electric or the non-electric one, the problem arises when the water completely evaporates but we don’t turn off the diffuser. Once the whole water evaporates, the diffuser tray starts to burn and gives a pungent smell which is quite unpleasant and also tampers with the diffuser tray and makes it unfit for further usage. The way to not let this happen is to take constant care and either refill the empty tray with more oil and water or remember to keep watch and turn the diffuser off as soon as the water evaporates.

Wax Melts

An amazing new addition to the world of fragrances has been the wax melts! They are super fun to use and pretty to look at. The best thing about these is that they are mess free and can solve the burning problem of the diffuser tray. Wax melts are small pieces made of fragranced wax which are to be kept in the diffuser tray whenever you want to add fragrance in the room using a diffuser. They are relatively simple to use. You could put a few pieces of wax melts into the diffuser tray and switch on the diffuser like you normally would. You do not need to mix any water with these melts. These stay way longer in the tray which prevents burning while giving more fragrance as they last much longer than fragranced essential oil water. This also makes the wax melts a cost effective option.

We also have reed diffusers which are for people who want absolutely no hassle in their life and want to fragrance the effortless way. Reeds absorb the fragrance oil and then naturally disperse it in its surrounding areas. Reed diffusers are quite simple to use. All you have to do is place the reed sticks in the provided fragrance jar. You would also need to flip the reeds every two to three days so that newly absorbed oil can flow in the air and spread the fragrance.

Air Freshner Sprays

One way of introducing fragrances into your space is by using air freshener sprays. There are multiple brands available in the market and they offer so many different types of fragrances which you can choose as per your needs and liking ! Using an air freshener spray is one of the easiest ways to get rid of any unwanted smell. It also shows the quickest dispersion of fragrance. It always shows immediate effect. The downside is that it doesn’t last long. So it is not a long term solution for the problem.

Another common way to go are fragrance pockets and gel based blocks. These are effective only for small places like washrooms and cars. But these are extremely easy to use. All you have to do is put it somewhere where it’s not disturbed. It’s as easy as opening a bag of chips. Place it at any convenient spot and you are good to go. These need replacement every 20 to 30 days depending on their size and quality and are available in various refreshing variants.

Do Candles Really Expire?

We have heard some people say that they like scented candles so much that they don’t feel like burning them. They just want to look at it. Do you feel the same way?

Scented candles can be a beautiful addition to any corner of your house to add that elegant touch to your ambience. A candle makes the entire space look brilliant and well-kept just by being there.

Do you often wonder how long these candles last?

In this blog, we’ll be explaining the numerous factors that help determine the life of a candle and steps you can undertake to ensure their longevity.

Do candles last long?

A “burn time” is known as the amount of time a candle can burn after it has been lit. The burn time is completely dependent on the size of your candle, the wax that has been used in the making of the candle, how many wicks have been used in the candle and what type of wick is being used. At AMLIIN, our 200g candle burns for approximately 60 hours. It is made using pure soy wax which is vegan and eco-friendly.

Now the question that mostly arises is, what is the lifetime of an unlit candle? The life of an unlit candle is determined by the wax used for manufacturing and also how the candle has been stored.

For candles made of paraffin wax, they can last for an extremely long time if stored properly. Paraffin wax is obtained from petroleum which helps the candle with longer life. A candle made out of natural soy wax must be used within two years.

There are numerous questions that might arise like:

Does the fragrance of a scented candle weaken or change over time?
Does the colour of a coloured candle also degrade over time?
Will there be a day when a candle might reach expiry and not light properly?

The most logical answer to all of these questions will be “yes”. All of these things do happen to candles eventually.

Does the fragrance of a scented candle weaken or change over time?

Scent degradation is the first step in the degradation of a candle.

The fragrance of an unlit candle will eventually degrade over time. The reason for this happening is simply the fact that fragrance oil molecules are constantly evaporating into the air. The process is slow and ongoing. This happens if the candle is unlit.

Bring a candle close to your nose, take a good whiff and you will notice the process.

The scent degradation is extremely slow and is barely noticeable for at least 6 months to a year. This also depends on the type of wax used and the quality of the fragrance oils.

It is important to understand that even though it might be unnoticeable, the degradation is happening. So it is always better that you burn your unlit candles.

Does the colour of a coloured candle also degrade over time?

The next most important aspect is the degradation of the colour used in the candle.

The colours used in candles do fade over time. The most important reason for the same is the exposure of the candle to UV light for a long period of time. This causes the dye that is mixed to oxidise and degrade. Therefore, one must try not to place unlit candles in a place where there is direct sunlight. Some indoor lights can also be responsible for emitting UV rays.

There is no particular timeline one can mention when it comes to colour degradation. It is hard to predict. If you store your unlit candles properly in a dark place, there are chances that the colours of your candle will last for a longer time period.

But keeping it outside and not storing it properly will surely make the colour fade overtime.

The quality of the wax used also plays a crucial role in determining the life of the coloured candle.

Will there be a day when a candle might reach expiry and not light properly?

One of the biggest concerns people have is how long will their candles last and whether they’ll still be able to light it after storing it for some time.

Some people have said that after keeping their beautiful luxury scented candles for a few years, the found it difficult to light the wick. The wick fizzles or does not light at all. Some say that the candles, even after years of storing, burn in the most elegant way.

Candles do not have a specific expiry date, like that of food items. But the degradation does happen over the years. They might eventually become difficult to burn.

The factors that determine the lifetime of a candle are:

The wax used
How the candle has been stored
Organic vegetable-based waxes like soy wax and coconut wax break over time due to their natural properties.

What can I do to make my candles last longer?

Keep your candles away from direct sunlight
Use a glass topper to help preserve the fragrance of the candle
Store them properly
Store them in a dark and cool place
Avoid places that have humidity or moisture.
Avoid drastic change in temperatures.

One cannot put down the exact number of years that your candle might last, but a good rule of practice to follow is to burn your scented candles with a year of unpacking them.
